Plants & Gardening

Science-based writing on plant life, ecosystems and growing. Choose a topic to explore.

Written by Serge, MSc., plant biologist and environmental scientist. My field research covered forest ecosystems, soil processes and how plants respond to environmental stress, alongside training in botany, taxonomy and biodiversity. What I write here comes from that work, in the field and the laboratory.

I have spent a lot of time in ecosystems rather than only reading about them. My field research took me into forests to measure how soil breathes, tracking carbon and nitrogen moving between the ground and the air, and to work with trees growing under real environmental stress. I have collected and pressed plant specimens, identified them by their Latin names, and watched how a single site holds dozens of species in balance.

That fieldwork shapes what I write here. Some of it looks outward, at forests, soil life, and the balance that keeps an ecosystem working. Some of it stays close to home, at the practical side of growing healthier plants with an understanding of what is happening beneath the surface.

All of it rests on plant science and hands-on work, with sources you can check. Pick a topic above to begin.
